My Allen Strange Story + Show Review

I was born during the original run of the show, so I never had a chance to watch it on TV, and I was a huge fan of Nickelodeon as a kid, but from 11 1/2 and-a-half to 21-and-a-half I didn’t watch it.  I got back into Nick thanks to Drake & Josh, and I haven’t looked back since.  Aside from Allen Strange, I watch Drake & Josh and Double Dare pretty regularly and sometimes iCarly, Victorious, Big Time Rush, Legends of the Hidden Temple and Kenan & Kel when it comes to Nick. I didn’t watch Allen Strange until 2025 because the a lot of the series (including the finale) was lost media and I didn’t want to watch a show with missing episodes, especially if I had no way of knowing how the series was going to end. I made this blog to one, show my appreciation for this great show and two, serve as an archive for the show if it ever gets taken down again. I liked a lot about this show.  I liked all 3 of the main characters & Hamilton, the acting, the writing, the pac...

Character Review: Josh Stevenson

Josh is a smart, caring (when he has to be), and resourceful 11 year old boy, and he’s a vital part of the main trio. He reminds me of when I was his age in many ways. Overall, Josh is great, just like the rest of the main trio and Hamilton. He preferred computers over sports, he liked playing video games and watching TV, he was smarter than your average kid, and he got good grades in school. We both loved comic books. He also wasn’t very popular, but wasn’t the laughingstock of the school either. I can’t say that I had his knowledge of technology or aliens, however. I enjoy his fascination with aliens. I think it was somewhat silly that Josh would always parade his love of aliens to his father, while at the same time harboring an alien behind his back. But, it did make for interesting plots. I liked Josh’s friendship with Allen. Given Josh’s interest in aliens, it must have been destiny for an alien-obsessed but chill (unlike Phil Berg) kid like Josh to meet Allen. I’m glad that Josh ...

Character Review: Hamilton Gerrigan

Hamilton is one of my favorite characters on the show. While he isn’t the brightest and his antics can get a bit annoying sometimes, it’s always great to see him on screen. He’s a great friend to Allen, Robbie & Josh and he’s pretty good at French Horn (for a high schooler). I felt bad that he didn’t have many friends growing up, so I’m glad he found the main 3 to hang out with. Even though Robbie didn’t want to date him, I felt they should have had an episode where they dated, where somehow Robbie had feelings for Hamilton. If I were to like any ship in the show, it’d be that one. I liked that Robbie was supportive of him despite being initially weirded out by him, especially since she knows he has a pretty big crush on her. Overall, Hamilton is a bit stupid and he can get annoying, and I wished him and Robbie would date because he has a lot of feelings for her and she can definitely fix him. His catchphrase is "Yes, absolutely yes!" and sometimes "No, absolutely no...

Character Review: Allen Strange (the Xelan boy)

Allen is an alien from the planet Xela who is trying to find his way back home. He is caring and considerate, even though he doesn’t really understand Earth much. His Xelan nature doesn’t allow him to lie, so he is forced into honesty. He has many powers, which are listed on the Journey of Allen Strange Wikipedia page and the Alien Species wiki. His relationship with Josh and Robbie is something to consider. Robbie and Josh put themselves in a lot of risk holding Allen in their house, especially since they have to keep him a secret from the dad, and especially the alien hunters who live in the same freaking town as them. However, I didn’t like how he gave in to Josh’s craziness in the second-to-last episode “Life of the Party”. He was super reckless with his behavior, which isn’t usually like him, and while I do think Manfred was being kind of tough, their behavior was not okay. Overall, Allen is a great character. I think he was played and written well, and was also a great main chara...

Character Review: Robbie Stevenson

Robbie is a 15 year old girl played by the obscure actress Erin J. Dean.  She’s a surfer, she’s on the track team and she also makes jewelry. Supposedly she has bad grades on the show, to the extent that she was excited to get a B in one episode (I don’t remember which one) because she had never gotten a grade that high in her life, and she was 15. I didn’t see her as stupid. Robbie may not always get along with her brother Josh, and sometimes even Allen, but they always find their way back to each other. The friendship between Robbie and Allen was so close that I was surprised that they didn’t kiss by the end of the show like Aang and Katara did in Avatar’s finale. Robbie has her angry moments and she can usually win an argument, but she’s usually calm and when she’s calm, she’s a friendly and pleasant person. 95% of her actions are on the side of good, and when they aren’t, they’re usually not too bad to begin with. Just selfish teenage girl BS, not actual evil like Sam Pu...

S3 E18 Message from Beyond

A meteor is coming and Allen & Josh go to a field to retrieve it, but ARC finds them and they go home. ARC chases them on their bikes and Josh drops his backpack, which ARC retrieves. Robbie and Erika are confronted by a lady who claims she’s working for a magazine. She suggests their magazine go mainstream, which Robbie supports but Erika doesn’t. In the attic, Robbie says they should destroy the meteor and she gets mad at Josh because she has magazine work to do. Josh tries looking stuff up about the meteor, but ARC has already tracked it. Robbie and Erika have an argument about their magazine plans. Josh suspects that Robbie is working for ARC, and the magazine lady is revealed to be working for ARC. Josh heard noise from the meteor and Allen cleans up the audio, revealing it’s a Xelan meteor. It says that Xela is freezing over and dying. Robbie comes back in an ARC suit after going with the “magazine lady” for a meeting. Josh freaks out over Robbie coming out of the ARC car, bu...

S3 E17 Life of the Party

Allen eats pop rocks with soda, and bubbles of his head form Xelan style. Then the theme plays. Josh needs someone to watch him during Robbie’s track thing, so Allen gets Manfred. They get Mr. Stevenson’s credit card. On the walk home from school, Josh talks to Plato while Hamilton gets nervous when Allen brings up his birthday. Josh talks about throwing a party, which Allen thinks would be good for Hamilton. At home, Manfred blocks the TV screen from Josh and Allen’s video game. After Josh suggests that Manfred try on Mr. Stevenson’s clothes, him and Allen order food from a bunch of places. Mr. Stevenson calls Manfred and he lectures the two boys after they make a mess and are late for school. Allen and Josh hang out with Plato as Josh prepares his gaming thumb. Hamilton comes to the house and is surprised with a birthday cake, which brings back PTSD of a house fire to him and he freaks out. Manfred quickly ends the party, but more people come anyway. Josh tricks Manfred into thinking...
